Washington Park

Exploring the fringes of the UChicago campus.

I’ve worked at the University of Chicago for almost eight years now, and I’ve explored enough to know that the immediate campus isn’t really my style when it comes to photography. It’s gorgeous, no doubt, but the gothic, Hogwarts feel isn’t really my thing. But the edges of campus where it starts to bleed into Englewood and Hyde Park proper are, and I still have plenty of walking to do there.

This set is from Washington Park, immediately west of campus across Cottage Grove Ave. It’s both the name of a neighborhood and an actual park. These shots are from some decaying park district maintenance garages and an abandoned piece of equipment from the Fermi Institute for physics.
