When we moved to the West Loop, we quickly realized that the fastest way to the north side was to head a few blocks west to Ashland. A four-lane street with enough turn lights to keep down congestion, it makes an easy trip through West Town, Wicker Park and Bucktown, under 90/94 and into Lincoln Park, Lakeview and beyond.
On your way up Ashland, you’ll cross Chicago Avenue, a major east-west street separating West Town, to the south, from Ukrainian Village and Noble Square to the north. The few blocks stretching either direction from the Chicago-Ashland intersection always caught my eye for the quirky signage, not-quite-gentrified mom and pop storefronts, art galleries and scattered graffiti murals, so I rode my bike up there a few weeks ago for a shoot. This time I headed west from Ashland–I’m planning to go back and work my way to the east soon.
